Everyone returned to camp, did their run, had a lite lunch and got dressed up for a night out of Dave's Pizza and a movie. We took pictures of our Seniors, 7th graders, and complete group all dressed up. The team choose to go between "Minions", "Paper Town (Paper Towel)", or "Antman." Everyone went to bed early to get ready for the last day of running our long run around the lake on Friday.
Thursday the weather finally turned nice, just in time for the all important Ultimate Frisbee Tournment. The day started with round robin games between the six teams to determine the tournment seeding. When the afternoon ended it was the team of Coach Allan, Leif, Four Cedars, Maggie, Coach Bunde, and Brenna!!

The rain left Bemidji, but blustery winds of 45 mph arrived at the park Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday. The team had to cancel the volleyball tournament, due to the wind at the lakeside courts being too high. To fill their free time, the team played cards, Risk, Life, ladder ball, and Cube. Everyone had a great time. Because the wind kept several of the campers from getting a good night of sleep Coach Allan made a manditory one hour nap time after the lunch of sloppy joes.
In the afternoon the Sun finally came out in time for our speed workout, the "Noodle Run." The runners team up in groups of two and have a continuous relay from the campsite down to the lake and back. It was great to see everyone running hard and cheering their teammates on. After s'mores, the Tuesday night campfire discussion was the athletes talking about their personal weaknesses (what they need to work on to be a better runner). It was benifical for everyone to share their items with the group so their teammates know what they are working on and can help them improve in these areas. Tomorrow is one of the favorite days of the camping trip. In the morning the annual frisbee football tournament happens. One team will be crowned champions on Thursday and have those bragging rights for the next year. That night everyone will dress up, go into Bemidji for pizza and a movie!! Monday the team arrived to very hot, 88, and muggy weather in Bemidji State Park. Everyone was postive going into our hardest workout of the trip, the infamous "Bemidji Ballbusters." The killer workout is over a wooded half mile trail that includes two long steep hills. The runners break up into equal abliity groups and run a continuous cycle of two minutes hard and two minutes easy over the course. To reach the coveted "Ball Buster" status you must complete 12 hard runs. Our young group of 7th grade boys posted a great total of 5 hard runs. Several individuals broke into the top level of 12 two minute runs, but two boys, Swanny and Richie made 16! The top girls showed that they are ready for the upcoming season as 5 of them went the max level of 16 also. That amount covers about 7 miles easy/hard running on that trails!
Monday night we had our first camp fire talk and the topics were "what does team mean to you?" and "what made you start running cross country?" It was a great discussion and everyone shared some great thoughts. The rain that started Monday night and continued into Tuesday causing the team to alter it's plans. We moved our lip sync contest to Tuesday. After drying out a few wet tents, the lip sync contest was a huge sucess with Ieveryone having a blast. The two teams, that performed "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Beat it" were the big winners and earned a dozen doughnuts as their prize. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry and a little cooler so everyone is gearing up for the big volleyball tournament down by the lake! Summer running is going strong this 2015! We have had a huge number of new of middle school boys and girls joining us for the fun. It has been great to see all of these new people excited about coming out and joining our group and try running. The older runners have also done a very good job of making sure the new runners know what to do.
We had our first "speed workout" of the summer, which typically is the Elmo run. The runners run around the perimeter of University Park and see how far they can get in 5 minutes, they plant a flag to record how far they make it. After a rest, they do the loop again and see if they can reach their flag a second time, or even go further. Everyone did amazing!! We already have a strong group of boys and girls and it will be exciting to see how much they improve over the summer. Coach Allan WDAZ Story on Grace Finney winning the Class A girls Pole Vault

Captains Blog EDC was more exciting than I could've even imagined! These girls have worked so hard this season and their hard worked paid off! I'm so proud of my team! We had 3 new qualifiers but multiple more events! Sophomore Lexi Grinolds and senior Madde Krenelka were two of our new qualifiers. Along with Juniors Grace Finney and Sophia Nelson, they qualified the 4x100m relay, and with time to spare! It's been awhile since Central has had such a solid sprinting team! The other new qualifier was junior Grace Roehl who doubled and got both the 1600m and 3200m runs with 6th place finishes and PRs to get 5:25 and 11:51 respectively in her events! But those weren't the only new events qualified! Sophia Nelson also placed 6th in the 100m hurdles, securing her ticket to state in that event as well! Now, with 3 events: 4x100m relay, 100m hurdles, an long jump, Sophia has her plate pretty full going into the meet. Jasmine Lindblad snagged a 3rd place finish in the discus to add another event to her list, now throwing both discus and shot put at the state meet! Although there were lots of tears of joy, there were also tears of sadness as some people were just a hair short of qualifying. Rachel "Rat" Torrey missed the 800m run by 1 place by coming in 7th. And Maggie Powell was just 3 seconds shy of getting a chance to run the 3200m run at State. But luckily Rat has qualified in 3 other events and Maggie will be riding along to the State meet as the 2nd alternate in both the 4x800m relay and 4x100m relay. Overall it was a fantastic meet and I'm glad to have been apart of such a fantastic 5 years with these girls! I will miss them all so much next year and I will be cheering my heart out at State watching them all perform! Rachel Cox, Senior, Captain |
