Even as it snowed outside this Friday, and a forecast for 7 to 10 inches of new snow on Sunday our boys have kept working and had a smiles on their faces, as you can see in the picture. The home Sertoma meet schedule for Tues, April 16th, at Cushman Field has been cancelled. Our next meet on the schedule is the Eagles Relay races, in Fargo, on Friday April 19th. What happens with the storm we are supposed to have this weekend will be a huge factor on whether we have that meet. The Fargo Davies coach emailed and said they will make a decision by Tuesday, to allow teams to find a meet if their is cancelled. So maybe there is a nice warm, snow free meet we can attend in Florida.

Central's Wednesday practice had the addition of Dan Cory, from WDAZ, walking around taking video and interviewing athletes and coaches for a story on how the extra long winter is affecting our track & field season. The full story can be found at the following link. http://www.wdaz.com/event/article/id/17230/group/Sports/ Having the camera at practice alone broke up the struggle of the long cold spring and made the day a little more fun. I thought the athletes did a great job when they were on camera and it was a good story that WDAZ put on the news. Our late North Dakota spring has claimed its first meet. The Central/Red River Duel scheduled this Friday, April 12th has been postponed to Tuesday, April 30th starting at Noon. The Sertoma Meet for Tues, April 16th, will most likely be cancelled. Our cold temperatures just don't seem to be breaking and allowing the few feet of snow on the track to melt. Our athletes are doing a great job of keeping a positive attitude about being stuck inside, but everyone is aching to get outside and have our sport be where it belongs.
The Central Boys finished 5th out of 10 teams Friday at the BSU, in Fargo. Camron Roehl was the highest finisher placing second in the 1600m, Camron (4:34.96) was 0.01 seconds from finishing first and combining with Ali Lindsay's (5:28.53) ten second win in the girls 1600m to give the Knights the sweep in the mile. The biggest PR (Personal Record) improvement goes to Brenden LaHaise who improved in the shot put by 6 feet 11 inches. Other earning PR's were Rylie Devier (60m, 200m), Cody Rowley (1600m, 800m), Taylor Deem (400m), Ben Wood (400m), Nick Ackely (800m), Andrew Torrey (800m), and David Hysjulien (LJ, TJ)
I'm excited about the new cross country alumni page. I have always enjoyed seeing what former members of our teams have done after they left high school. This is a great way for others to share in their success and also let current members of the team see what the future could hold for them. Alumni, please send me your information so I can include it. Soon I will add an alumni page for Track & Field, or maybe I will combine them since most of the cross country runners also ran Track.
Today we leave for the EDC indoor meet. What a difference a year makes, last year this meet was moved outside because of the nice weather. This year we are already wondering if next Friday's duel between us and Red River will be held at Cushman field. We will need some serious warming up for that to happen. I drove by the track last night and only a few meters of track is even visable. The runways for triple and long, and throwing fields are still under FEET of snow. Thanks to the GFC booster club we have a new 6 feet by 4 feet record board on order for the boys and girls track teams. I have looked over the first proof's of it and I'm very excited about how it will look and I hope it will bring more attention to our track & field teams. It will be located next to the stairs going up to the Central main gym by the end of April.
It has been increasingly difficult to keep a large participation numbers out for boys track & field. I'm always looking for new ways to increase our numbers. I think a big part of our future success will be making sure our feeder middle school teams have a postive experience. Our coaching staff is looking at ways to make sure those younger athletes enjoy their season. As I write this, I'm curious if people are reading this blog about our team and enjoying the updates? What do parents, alumni, and current team members want to see written here? What additional pages and information do you want on this new website. I try to put something new on here every day and I would like to get some feedback!! So if you are reading this, please give me your thoughts and comments!!! The Paul Bunyan Classic had 29 teams, 17 heats of girls 200m dash, 19 heats of boys 200m dash, 130 boys running the 60m dash, which all led up to the longest meet of my 20 years of coaching, 8 hours 56 minutes. But both teams had successful days and did a great job of competing! The Central Boys finished second, with the 4x2 being the highlight by winning the race and just missing the meet record. Seniors Wes Austin, Carrington Adams, Killian Gause, and Freshman Adam Grove lead from the gun and increased their lead with each leg. Our evening ended with having pizzas being delivered to the field house, then having to transfer all of our things from our orignal bus, that broke down, to a new bus. We arrived home late, and I'm sure there will be a lot of tired, but successful, young men at school today. Several of our new Track & Field althetles got a chance to compete in their first high school meet Saturday at the Bemidji Lions Indoor meet. It was a lot of fun to watch them work out their first meet jitters and run, jump, or throw. Several earned their first points ever for the Knights: Taylor Tomlinson 1600m, Cody Rowley 800m, Rylie Devier 200m & 4x200, Alex Grove HJ & 4x200, Adam Grove HJ & 4x200 & Triple Jump, Spencer Oen Pole Vault, Chris Caraballo 4x400m Congrats to Senior Carrington Adams and the Central Knights for a great day at the 2013 State Indoor Meet. Carrington won the Long Jump, 21 feet, placed 3rd in the Triple Jump, 40' 11.5", and 8th in the 60m dash. We also had many Central athletes earn Personal Records (PR's) at our first meet of the 2013 season: Brandon Gregie 60m Hurdles & 400m, Carrington Adams 60m dash, Wes Austin 60m Dash, Alex Dianat 1600m & 800m.
